Designing jewelry with color and texture

I love designing a new piece of jewelry, keeping in mind texture and color. Usually, a bead, color scheme or image will be the initial inspiration. With the necklace in the picture, I had just bought some beads from a dear friend, Joan, and in my mind they meshed with larger, funky silver beads (the texture of the piece) and sparkly silver, blue and rainbow colored (the color of the piece) elements. It ended up being long, large and in charge. I love it with a plan tunic and that's how I pictured it being worn. My husband calls it the "Star Trek" necklace! It does have a futuristic quality to it!
